Day 16

I have actually been running really well on this program.
Guess it is a combination of better nutrition, some weight loss and not running too much.

Day 14 (HALFWAY POINT) of the Fast Metabolism Diet

So far I have lost six pounds in 14 days.
Fantastic results....

Went to Yoga (which is the phase specific exercise) then to the Asian market where the guy recognized me but I am guessing I stand out.

Open day so I took the new camera to the top of San Bruno mountain where I took some pictures.
Made my way into the city and was proud that that I had sparkling water and brazil nuts.

The planning of food (meals and snacks) is a positive thing

Day 13 of Fast Metabolism Diet

Staying on the dietary plan (Day 2 of Phase 3) but did join the run group for a run through the park.
I was really happy with the first half of my run, especially the 1st two miles which I ran at 8:11.

The two biggest barriers to me getting faster is my weight and my mind.
Losing six pounds in the last 13 days has made a big difference.

Day 11 of the Fast Metabolism Diet

Phase II is the hardest.
I love fruit, no fruit on Phase II.

Went to farmers market and got a bunch of strawberries that will have to wait until tomorrow.
One of the things that this plan is the pre-planning of meals and snacks.

Sardines work on Phase II and they are good if you are on the road.
They are not a good choice to eat in a car.
Brought a fork and ended up eating them near a recycle bin that overlooked the Golden Gate Bridge.

Currently at 235.

Day 10 of the Fast Metabolism Diet

A lot of this program involves pre-planning and scheduling to avoid falling off.

Was going to an event where food was going to be served and I was not risking it so once again I found Phase II (far and away the most restrictive phase) food at Chipotle.

When I got to the event they had tons of Escape from New York Pizza. I was very happy that I had eaten because that would have been a challenge.

Day 9 of the Fast Metabolism Diet.

Got to 235, which is a four pound lose in nine days..
I am very happy with that result.

If you are going to do this program, you really need a digital scale, measuring cups and probably loads of tupperware if you are going to be on the road.

It helped quite a bit that my girlfriend did the program and so I saw what was needed.

Day 7 of the Fast Metabolism Diet

Went to the Asian Market. Zucchini is on all three phases.
Way cheaper compared to other places.

Still at 237

Day 6 of the fast metabolism diet

Had lunch at Chipotle as the Burrito Bowl has all the requirements
4 ounces of chicken
brown rice
Guacamole
Loads of veggies...

Day 5 of the Fast Metabolism Diet

Finally onto day three.
Going without booze, coffee, desert is one thing but phase II and its lack of fruit is the pits.
(Also no avocado pits)

Went to a Brazilian Steakhouse and I did go over my serving size (ounces vs pounds) but I stayed on program by drinking water and avoiding anything on the salad bar that were not phase specific or disallowed on the program.

Discovered that my Vitamix makes a decent spinach smoothie that is drinkable with Splenda and some berries.

Day 4 of the Fast Metabolism Diet

Today was more difficult, mostly because I was not in my home office but rather on a field trip to LinkedIn which has loads of snacks.
Phase II is the most restrictive with the shortest list of approved foods. Saw that you could eat Jerky so I walked into Walgreens and the first thing I saw was Jerky but Heather reminded me that I needed Nitrate free so I gave it away.
Went to Chipotle for a Burrito Bowl that was all fajita vegetables and chicken.
Luckily LinkedIn had nitrate free Jerky amazingly and the afternoon snack was high end deli meats.

Day 3 of the Fast Metabolism Diet

I weighted in at 237 which is a 2 pound loss.
Was happy with that.

Today was the start of Phase II which is meat and certain veggies and no fruit.
I am not a fan of phase II so far.
Between the blueberries of phase I and the almond butter of phase II this is the Empire Strikes Back phase. (the best Star Wars movie but the one where the good guys have the worst time until Episode III)

Day 2 of the Fast Metabolism Diet

Still at 239 but considering I drank 120 ounces of water (or 7.5 lbs) this is not a surprise
Loads of blueberries, quinoa, carrots, bison, oatmeal and cherry tomatoes.

Went to Costco to get more vegetables, quinoa and fruit.

The hardest thing is not drinking coffee as that was such a part of my morning routine.
Another point of difficulty is the phase specific exercise.

For the past few years, I have been running A LOT. Six to five days a week. A true rest day without running or spin was rare.
I want to follow the program AND I want to run 100 miles in September so I ran a lot the first 10 days before the start of phase 2.

As we started our run there was a group from another running group. Was able to catch up and pass quite a few people from the group and I could tell the ones I passed were deflated.
I hate it when I am passed. I do not mind someone faster but getting passed annoys me.

So I will need to run 50 miles in the next 6 phase 1 days. I may allow myself to do speed work on Thursday.

Day 1 FMD 239

So my start weight is 239 which is actually 1 pound less than my drivers license.
As far as results, I would be THRILLED at 229.
The book says you could lose up to 20 pounds in 28 days but I think that is ambitious.

On this program you drink a lot of water. The equation is 1 ounce of water for every 2 pounds, so that means 120 ounces of water.

You are not allowed coffee which is probably going to be the greatest challenge.

Had oatmeal, blueberries, loads of veggies, chicken, rice, broccoli, pineapple and spinach.

Tomorrow will have bison instead of chicken. Need to remember to defrost.

Fast Metabolism Diet Day -1

Tomorrow I will be starting the Fast Metabolism Diet so I will blog my progress, questions, issues etc.
It is a four week program where each week is broken down into three phases.
If you start on a Monday, phase 1 is Monday and Tuesday, phase 2 is Wednesday and Thursday, Phase 3 is Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
You eat and snack at specific times and of course a specific quantity of different foods on each phase.
The last few days I have been getting prepared by
1) ensuring I have phase specific foods on hand
2) Got measuring cups/spoons (I had a digital scale)
3) Getting rid of all foods not allowed on the program.

A few things that are not allowed during the 28 days is
1) coffee
2) dairy
3) refined/processed sugars
4) alcohol
5) Diet soda

I am having my last cup of coffee and eating my breakfast with loads of cheese on my eggs.
Amazingly the hardest thing to go without, is the coffee.

My refrigerator is half full of pasta salad and potato salad as I am going to a picnic. These are items I normally would not eat (and they are obviously not on the program)
My girlfriend did the program and we were introduced to some fantastic foods. I got a Vitamix and discovered how to make almond butter, guacamole, humus and smoothies.

My start weight is 239. My goal weight is 225. I am not sure if that is a realistic goal after 28 days. I would be thrilled with 230 for the end of this program.

I plan on repeating this program in January. (I typically do not drink in January so this makes it easy)

So each day I will post my weight and any other random thoughts.

Votive Candle and a ceramic last supper

I am trying to clear out the clutter in my place and I was going to leave a ceramic last supper and a random votive candle near the mailboxes but I ran into a neighbor and I guessed if they would want it.
He took both items and the low end gardening kit I won.
Little bit more space. That is always good.
