Hecker Pass

I am getting ready to take Andrea, Sarah and Jameson (and possibly his cousin) in the Marcusmobile to the Hecker Pass.
The first half of the drive may be made of wood as it is mostly interstate but the second half will be coastal.

I will need to find mildly interesting anecdotes.

btw here is a movie I want to see

March

We went from the Haight through Golden Gate Park to the Inner Richmond to Lands End and finally at the Park Chalet.

Sunday, July 29, 2007

Ran 4.26 miles in the rain, like a fool....

Farmers Market + Maryland Crabs.....

If I had a trip like Andreas I would be grumpy Marcus.
Anyway she was rather spry.

We went to the Farmers Market to get various produce and then to Audrey's 29th BDay.

We then met Andrea's droogs.

The Simpsons Movie First Viewing..... (A Breakdown in Civility)

I worked at a movie theater for four days in 1992.
After going to see the Simpsons at the Century in South San Francisco I saw why I did not last.
http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=eGS&pwst=1&q=century&near=South+San+Francisco,+CA&radius=0.0&latlng=37655940,-122413360,8026526151103742328&sa=X&oi=local&ct=authority&cd=1

I am amazed that this is still a full price theater. It combines the lack of character of a multiplex with the dinginess of a mall near the end of its life.
Based on the Yelp reviews, I heard they had rats. I did not see any but I would have found that preferable to the behavior of the patrons who did not seem to understand the concept of being quiet and seemed to be playing some sort of game aimed at annoying me and the other patrons who seemed to have an old timey concept of being quiet when watching a movie.

I did like the movie. It is the Simpsons and it was simply a 90 minute episode which was fine. Lately I have found movies to be close to three hours for no real reason. Case in point, Spider Man 3. It would have been a fun movie at 90 minutes. (Also it was a long day.....)

If my Mom had a clock like Molly Weasley she would she Marcus in Cinema (Annoyed), Andrea in Salt Lake City (Annoyed), Jeff in China (probably at the Shaloin Temple and Tommy either in France or Texas.
http://www.hp-lexicon.org/wizards/molly.html#skills

I ran about 4.2 miles on the Sawyer Camp trail. Did not have to help Keri move.

No one was Rang De Basanti at the Simpsons Midnight showing

My main motivation in going to midnight releases of things is getting pictures of those that are really dressed up.
I went to the midnight showing of the Simpsons and no one was Rang De Basanti

As I did not want to sit in the theater for another hour and I have time to kill tomorrow in the South Bay I got  a ticket refund and made my way home.

Earlier in the day I ran 4.26 miles in the Marina (I had skipped Tuesday and Wednesday) and then played volleyball.
We lost three games and then we won three games. Whoever said winning does not matter is boots.

Simpsons Tonight

This evening after a double header in volleyball, I will be making my way to the new Cinema to see the midnight showing of the Simpsons. I will be REALLY disappointed if no Simpson dorks are dressed up. My motivation for going to midnight shows is for the pictures of those that are really into it.

So my plan for this afternoon is about a 4.5 mile run in the Presidio, perhaps the purchase of new fred contrainers at fleet feet, some volleyball with dining at City Tavern and perhaps to the hipster store (Matrix Filmore) and finally seeing the midnight showing of the Simpsons.

I have not read the reviews nor have I found out much about the plot due to the whole Empire Strikes Back incident of 1980.

2.0 Nametags....

For some reason I thought I would be finding loads of software engineers at the Web 2.0 mixer in San Francisco last night.

It was at 111 Minna and I must say that I used to find this type of thing much more fun/interesting in the 1998 to 2000 time frame.

I gave away a bunch of rubber balls. I do not need swag.

Went across town to the Urban Diversion clubhouse for their open house. Went to Walgreens to get Lance a box of nametags. So in one evening, I got two name tags. I wish everyone wore them all the time or at least spoke in third person which is the mark of intelligence!

Had a beer at Fiddlers with Meg and Andy.

Saturn has 60 Moons. 60th is named Frank

http://dsc.discovery.com/news/2007/07/20/saturnmoon_spa.html?category=space

So Saturn has 60 moons. 58 more than Earth. Anyway the 60th is named.... Frank after Frank Chu?
Perhaps a partial settlement from the 12 Galaxies?

Car Wash

I think the car wash is one of the simpler transactions of this fast paced modern world.
After getting gas I decided to reward the Marcusmobile with a trip through the car wash as it was able to go 360 miles on a single tank.

The guy in front of me did not know how to operate the payment machine so he came to my car for help.
Then once in the drive through car wash he did not know he was supposed to drive through the air dry thing and I had to honk and make drive on motions.

On the way to Golden Gate Park I saw they were having some sort of electronics recycling event. Its amazing how quickly something goes from coveted item to door stopper.

At the Tour De Dat I saw loads of dogs.

Parked the Marcusmobile in the Mission and took Muni to the UD Clubhouse.
The pub crawl was quite fun but I left to go to the Mission for Brunos which late on a Saturday night was not my scene.

Harry Potter at Green Apple Books

I actually got two invites to go to the midnight release of Harry Potter. (Thank you Keri and Lauren)
It was a Sunset/Richmond evening.

Went to have dinner with Audrey and her family where we discussed goings on at Oxon Hill from the 1980's.

Afterwards went to Clement Street to go to Club 540.

Spoke to Gwen that was in Steerage. Her

It was a few doors down from Green Apple Books. As I had not read book 6 I picked that up and read a portion of it before the midnight release.

This was one of the dorkier nights. The waiter at the Vietnamese place asked if I waited in queue.

Star Wars

I know I am going to anger my core readership because of this post. They will riot in the street and perhaps litter.

Anyway last night the writer of the greatest blog laid down to slumber and he dreamt about going to a large library in Portland Oregon with his family to watch an alternate version of Star Wars Episode IV (a new hope). I think this was triggered by me sending off You Tube clips of Turkish Star Wars.

The plot was a bit different with the Death Star Destroying several planets.

I am debating going to the Richmond or the Mission tonight. I am avoiding bistromatics.

New Season of Volleyball.....

I guess my brother could eat pork buns at will on his trip to China
http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapcf/07/18/china.health.fake.reut/index.html

I find it interesting that there is almost universal outrage at the stories of Michael Vick behind a dog fighting ring (I am pleased at the level of outrage) but the sport he plays is centered around a pig skin with tens of thousands of people gorge themselves on hot dogs. I am guilty of this myself but somehow we as people assign a certain value to the life of dogs and cats (and horses and rabbits) but then the pig is the central piece of equipment in a popular sport watched by millions.
http://www.mikevick.com/
Amazingly the message board has been taken down.

A new season of volleyball started. I ran before opposite of fred but they were junk miles.

Played volleyball. I had one good series.

Afterwards we went to this RWP place and I was not a fan of the seating arrangement, the prices or the fact that we would all be going in on the bill. I want  a seperate check as I do not like doing accounting after a meal.

While walking on Chestnut I stopped off at a book store (Books Inc) and the woman at the store was one of those women you would imagine working at a bookstore as she writes the great american novel.

Days Inn

First off think good thoughts about Cosmo as he is putting under to get his teeth cleaned.

He is the best dog since Noel.

Was down in the South Bay and then drove up to Redwood City to see my brother Jeff who I think was trying to be Mundane or Ironic as he was staying in a sad Days Inn and we ate at a chain restaurant (Chevys). We also went to Target. They were selling some odd statue. I asked the cashier if Medusa had rolled in. She did not understand the joke. I am guessing she is not well versed in Greek Mythology or Land of the Lost.

I do not mind Chevys and before I moved to California I thought their Salsa was the best ever. I remember it was brought in at Digex, but alas I am urbane and sophisticated.

The Days Inn was very sad. It got sadder as you got closer. The Marque promised a pool and sauna but the pool looked like an experiment in growing animal life forms and the sauna had a large wooden cover, I guess they wanted to not disturb the crime scene. The television set looked like I would imagine one that would be used in prison.

If they were going for drab and depressing, they hit it front and center. Even the lampshade was a disturbing filth. I always pictured business travel as staying in places like the Hotel W and chatting up attractive jet set women in the hotel bar.

Detach

I have to relearn or reemphasize detachment.

One day as I was walking along Van Ness faster than the cars which were stuck in a traffic jam I noticed that in my simple ambling, I was far happier than those attached to their cars.

That was kind of those rare moments of enlightenment.

But often I think having that Jalopy or that toil or the world's largest telescope will lead to happiness. That is not the case. I need to relearn that.

I guess the reason that dogs have gotten so well into our lives is through their simple actions they force you into the present moment.

I remember I was having a bad day when I was dog sitting Raider and Brando and I took them for a walk. Upon our return I was still full of bad energy related to attachment. One of the dogs walked over with leash in mouth as they knew I needed to keep walking.

Not going into a lot of details but I have an opening for the role of cat sitter.
