What I have been doing....

In a weird sadistic way, I hope it rains on Sunday.
When I am done and I am this or that Super Bowl party and I am walking funny and they say, "Marcus, why do you walk funny" and "what is all that white powder"? I will be able to say that I ran a Half Marathon in the rain like a Taylor Dayne video.
It is another cold/rainy night and I finally hooked up my xBox 360 and I was made of wood with the driving game. I am not a gear head or do I have a need for speed.

People stop me on the street and ask me, Marcus, what have you been doing.
So for the month of January here are my estimates
744 hours
248 Sleepytime
160 Hours direct toil
40 Hours commute/getting ready
15 hours running
2 Hours volunteering at the food bank
2 Hours as a guest bartender
277 Hours wandering around

Went to the Redwood City Grocery Outlet but I could not find those power gels.
It is raining again and I went to the Daly City library to pick up my items. I was going to go to the San Mateo library but I got really lost.

Marcus is not a teetotaler

I want to address a question that I have gotten from people on the street and on the telephone.
I am not going to be a teetotaler. All I am doing is giving up drinking for two months (January and February) and starting in March will only drink
-things that are made by Monks
-things that are made on site
-Stuff that I brewed myself (I am considering learning t brew...)

I will not drink anything
-that is advertised during the superbowl. If a food or beverage is advertised during the superbowl, chances are that it sucks.
-Long Island Iced Teas (as I am not 22)
-Any Frozen tropical drink (this was not hard...)

Musical Interlude

After toiling I went on my final run of the month around the Lake. My knee started to hurt so I slowed down a bit but fell good after opposite of fred.

As I did not want to deal with parking I took BART into the Mission and walked to Amnesia for the Urban Diversion Happy Hour where I was not drinking. Went to a store to get licorice (Panda) and this woman approaches me telling me that she had not seem me in two years and she told me that she is now in a folk band called "Making Dinner". Honestly I had no clue who she was and was hoping my mental rolodex would help me out but it had a one track mind (Licorice). She finally told me her name (Zarah) and I went to a charity Kickball game.

The Happy Hour was at Amnesia where the last time I went the bartender played a Dolly Parton song that I could not find. On the way into work they played a Dolly Parton song on the jukebox from hell and I did not agree. I heard Jolene around the Lake.

Enjoying the Voynich Manuscript

I woke up later than I like which meant I took 280 to 92 to 101.
Got into work a bit late which meant I stayed later.

On the way out of work I called 511 and they informed me that 101 was a no go so I took Homestead to 280
Got gas at Costco ($3.01) while I listened a story of the worlds largest rubber band ball. It seems there is a whole community about making large balls out of stuff.

Stopped off in Los Altos for a bit of shopping. Since I taught myself to make my own soup, the idea of paying $3 for soup seems crazy. The bread I made was quite good.
The woman at the sample counter was cute as she talked about transfering from the Mountain View store.

Got some blueberries at the produce place.

Got back on 280 but it was crowded. I wish those other people would have the courtesy to stay off the roads when I am trying to go from point a (toiling/my pad) to point b (my pad/toiling).

Right now I am reading the Voynich Manuscript.

Really, nothing is happening....

This is one of those days where nothing is going on.
Ran 11 miles yesterday so running was out plus the fact that it was often cold and rainy. I hope its not like this next weekend when I am running the Kaiser half.

Drove down to Costco and got olive oil, popcorn, seasoning and chicken bouillon. Then added two movie passes. (they sell Century movie passes)
Dropped off my old vacuum cleaner at the Salvation Army in South San Francisco.

Gave my Nintendo Game cube that I never really got into to a former Pegastaffer/Googler that lives in the Richmond. I like getting rid of stuff. Tried to find a parking spot on Clement and did not want to walk in the rain like a chump!

Ended up making my way to Chestnut street where I closed followed one of the droogs from Urban Diversion. Some randoms walking behind me was discussing their intense hangovers.

Amazingly until today I had no Jimmy Buffet OR Gordon Lightfred on my iTunes. Jimmy Buffet concerts are fun.

Got another English Laundry shirt at Jacks. The guy knows my name. If anyone is looking for a dog sitter from Friday to Sunday let me know. Will take pictures of your dog.

As it was raining I decided to go home but on the way back I had the idea to make a loaf of bread. Stopped in Hayes Valley where I went to a health food store where I got the ingredients. It came out OK.

My big hit was my chicken/mushroom/egg/carrot soup. Put some bouillon and then added carrots, mushroom, the egg, chicken and put in some olive oil. It was ready really quickly. If you want to make it let me know how it goes.

Considered painting my apartment that mustard yellow.

I like it when it rains, it rains properly. None of this half minded/half sunshine nonsense. I am glad I did not go to Tahoe.

11.03 miles plus Limo Scavenger Hunt

The main focus of the day was running 11 miles. Went from the San Francisco Zoo to the DeYoung. Next weekend I have my second half marathon.
When I got to the DeYoung I decided to go into the rebuilt Richmond Safeway which is having a grand reopening. I was hoping they were giving out free gatorade.

One of the opposite of freds asked if he knew me. He thought I was one of the regional managers. I should have acted like I was on a secret mission of some sort. I mentioned I had run from the zoo. He then said he needed to lose weight and I gave him nutrition advice. If someone is eating bad stuff its really to make improvements.

<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="198" height="145" id="Nike+ Runs" align="middle"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value="http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/v1/swf/scrapablewidget/rundetail.swf" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><param name="FlashVars" value="type=individualRun&userDefaultUnit=mi&screenName=hydra1970&dateFormat=MM/DD/YY&id=216138683&region=us&language=en&locale=en_us"/><embed src="http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/v1/swf/scrapablewidget/rundetail.swf" quality="high" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="198" height="145" name="Nike+ Runs" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" FlashVars="type=individualRun&userDefaultUnit=mi&screenName=hydra1970&dateFormat=MM/DD/YY&id=216138683&region=us&language=en&locale=en_us" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed></object>

For dinner I made Spinach, Garlic, Mushrooms and Chicken with sesame oil.

Decided to go to the Urban Diversion Limo Scavenger Hunt. I had been scarce as of late. It was a fun night. I was wearing a gold cross and the security guard (at a different Safeway) thought it was a fine piece of bling. They probably thought I had spent a good amount on it.

No UFO in Clown Colony......

It is raining pretty hard. Hopefully we will have a dry spell in the next few days so I can get some mileage in (I hate running in the rain and running indoors)
On the way back from the South San Francisco BART station (one of my goals is to take more public transportation AND they are running more trains from SSF) I looked up in the sky and saw some lights. For a split second I thought, Finally a UFO/Flying Saucer but a couple of seconds later I saw it was an airplane.
This got me thinking that I would be totally up for a trip in an alien spaceship. You cannot get me on the Space Shuttle due to motion sickness but if they could get from a different star system they would work out the kinks. Got me thinking who would I get the aliens to abduct with me.
I think Pat Robertson and Tom Cruise would be funny. Kurt Vonnegut and Douglas Adams would have been interesting but they both met their maker. Kate Nash would be good. She would write a song about us going on a space trip.

Speaking of saucers I do not like going to coffee shoppes that give you a saucer. Honestly I prefer a paper cup but that is destroying the planet and would reduce my chances of being chosen for a space journey. It just gives me a chance to spill coffee. I have made it a point to not put pit creamer in my coffee right now.

I gave away my Nintendo Gamecube to a relative of Eli/Peyton/Archie Manning. Posted it on craigslist and changed my status to reflect the giveaway. Sometimes I like giving things away rather than bother with selling.

Safeway is not a fan of my kin. I got a couple bags of $1 spinach and I had a coupon for $1 off two cans of soup that was supposed to be a $1 each (so I would be getting them for $.50) but I noticed I was charged the full price. They gave me a refund but I still for the $1 off coupon which rocked. It did not compare to the progresso soup incident.

Oil

Last night I used the last of my Olive oil when making vegetables and popcorn so I had a legitimate reason to go to Costco (to purchase Olive Oil and more unpopped popcorn)
So I get gas at Costco ($3.21 plus 1% back) and then go get the two items that I needed from the store.

Sadly the queues were very long and they would not let me pay at the pharmacy. So I just left the items and left the store. Whenever I go to Costco I feel like the fittest person in the world. If they had Costco Olympics I would be Mark Spitz.

It started a light cold rain but I rain 2 miles that could be considered "junk miles" but it did put me at 73.99 miles for the month which is the most of any month since either October or November of 1988. I have a long run on Saturday and then five miles on both Monday and Wednesday.

Speaking of oil, I have been doing quite a bit of research on nutrition and I tossed the bottle of vegetable oil that was under my sink. It was quite old so it was probably rancid. Only Olive or Sesame.

Tracy Webb, one of my cross country teammates from when Biz Markie was singing the Vapors told me about a movie called Spirit of the Marathon that was playing for one night in Daly City so I made my way. Would have popped corn but as I said earlier I was out of oil.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZID5JzMRcn8
http://www.marathonmovie.com/home.html

It was really good but I am not going to run a marathon. No, No, No.

Went to a Korean Supermarket and got sesame oil and some sort of salad that stuck in my teeth.

Fred containers on a wire...

First off I have decided who I will be supporting for President!
I am endorsing Max Frost!

Most people are not that observant about the world around them. I think I notice small details and possible trends than some. On the way into work I noticed someone had strung up two pairs of fred containers (shoes) on a telephone wire that crossed the 101. I am not sure how this was done. Perhaps some nutters pulled over and darted in the middle of the freeway OR during a traffic jam they may have walked out and tossed them up on the wire.

Went running in the Marina. Running without long pants and not in the rain makes a huge difference.
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase=" http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="198" height="145" id="Nike+ Runs" align="middle"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value=" http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/v1/swf/scrapablewidget/rundetail.swf" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><param name="FlashVars" value="type=individualRun&userDefaultUnit=mi&screenName=hydra1970&dateFormat=MM/DD/YY&id=1424155096&region=us&language=en&locale=en_us"/><embed src=" http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/v1/swf/scrapablewidget/rundetail.swf" quality="high" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="198" height="145" name="Nike+ Runs" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" FlashVars="type=individualRun&userDefaultUnit=mi&screenName=hydra1970&dateFormat=MM/DD/YY&id=1424155096&region=us&language=en&locale=en_us" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage=" http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed></object>

I saw a Standard Poodle so I took a break and his name was George. He was very cute and darted across the field. I wonder if he knew of Noel and George.

You cannot beat the scenery with the landscape, doggies, other stuff. If I had to run around Daly City where the scenery is not nearly as good (and the dogs are BARKY MALARKY!!) I would not enjoy it as much. I am either going to run 1) Marina/Crissy Fields 2) Golden Gate Park 3) Sawyer Camp Trail 4) Lands End. If you have ideas of other long trails that are mostly flat, let me know. So far this month I have  run 71.9 miles.

Purchased one shirt at Jacks on Chestnut. Was going to go to Plutos but decided to go home and make spinach/onion/tomato/mushroom/chicken. Will be going back with my personal shopper.

Both Cosmo and Sasha are celebrating a decade of dogginess/kittenness.

Many people envy our happy

Unexpectedly photos were posted out so much response and reaction, in addition to their colleagues know, junior high school, high school classmates, friends, bosses in various parts of the country from different sources to see these photos and "sent a message" and even This two-day meals to Qinghua people have been identified, let me in any case some feel flattered. Shuimu Forum is the main launch, praised the majority of the people, of course, there are some negative assessment. For some obvious psychological Suanbeitao remarks, I naturally is the knowing smile and, I am as serious cherish the beautiful enough. For some photographic technique, "critics" in the back, I can only feel helpless: 1. Its own technology, I know that several two , there is no overreaching himself to photography version of the film to suffer, it is reproduced past others 2. those so-called "critical response" No one pointed out my technical shortcomings, so I do not have to accept with an open mind; 3 I have always thought that, for me, this photographic skill, that is good enough, and I tables not only health, not to any equipment fever, each unhappy press the shutter, and had been respectful perspective to examine the real photography erupted.

Many people envy our happy, I will say that, in fact you can. Lp and I are ordinary people, with the intention of only slightly to ordinary life becomes interesting only. I watched lp serious preparations Maldives trip, as well as details of the time, a lot of packing her clothes, wedding dresses, photography props time, I also feel tired, but tired too, in the intention of pressing the shutter retained the Maldives every corner and any one of our warm eyes, in Beijing peak after a day of work in the home, although tired watching these experiences is to use the photos and text, we can more than ordinary people understand perhaps only forever in the memories of Meedhupparu Island.

We are ordinary people, with the intention of only slightly to ordinary life becomes interesting only, I ask this question every friend you can.

One more thought, more than an expression of life will be like this Meedhupparu bottles of water, but the preciousness of pure transparency.

Dog Music for dogs & you

First off if anyone has the codes for free delivery from Safeway please let me know.

I got a call from Andrea to tell me that Stelly is afraid of school buses and that Cosmo was going towards the water to take care of some issues but an alert Andrea told him to turn around before we had a Cosmo Popsicle. Perhaps he would be unfrozen thousands of years from now by some advances society. Some background for those who have not gone on duty in Churchton, the dogs are trained to turn around when we say "turn around" like the song Total Eclipse of the Heart.

I had a dream that Cracked Magazine bought Mad Magazine and Mad TV was now Cracked TV. It was a far more interesting dream but now it seems really dull. Perhaps I should go on about running and Star Wars.

On the way out the door as the door was closing I stuck my fred to stop it from closing which was lucky as the keys were on the table. That would have sucked.

So I got the word that Heath Ledger had died. I am not someone who cares much about celebrity worship. I am concerned as much about Britney Spears as a character on the Simpsons. It was a sad story nonetheless. Seems like he had quite a bit of anxiety and sleep issues.

Will be going to Jacks on Chestnut Street to get some cool new threads. Sadly Andrea will not be here to tell me if something fits or looks daft but I have los otros to ask.

I am happy that they are far more BART trains running from South San Francisco to the city. I am far more likely to take public transport if I do not have to wait twenty minutes for the next train. Took the train to the World Affairs Council Happy Hour even though I am on the wagon.

Listening to Interpool on Pandora. I think even with all of the crappy music, this is one of the best times to be a music fan. Give me an iPod over any listening device, even the almighty Zune. Listening to the Doves. I need to form a band. It will be really good and we will have loads of arguments at Costco.

Went to the South San Francisco Library to get a book on CD for my commute and I was not too pleased with the selection.

Fred Thompson dropped out of the Presidential Race. I wonder what will happen to those that ran out and placed bumper stickers on their cars.

Oil Change, Pho and Running + Plutos

It was one of those days they could not sort out the weather. I did not know if I wanted to watch three movies or hang out on Ocean Beach getting a suntan.

Drove to Daly City to get my oil changed but they told me it would take at least three hours so I went into the city and found another oil change joint in the Tenderloin. I would rather hang out in close proximity to several pho joints than Daly City.
This woman pulled up in a white Nissan Sentra and I tried chatting her up. We both agreed that it was a good city car but I do not think she thought of me as a high roller.

While I was waiting for the oil change I hung out in the same Pho joint that I went to yesterday and ordered the same food. I was considering something else but wanted the same.

it was raining but time for a run so I put on my waterproof jacket, a hat, one glove and made my way from Fort Mason to Fort Point. Turns out the route was around 6 miles. On Google maps it said 8 but that was driving. I ran into one of my former kickballers. I think as long as I do the the distance/time stopping is not bad. I also saw a black standard poodle puppy named Jackson that was very silly!!

It started raining hard so I was glad that I had sprung for the waterproof jacket. Because my iPod reset I had two runs of just over six miles. Wednesday will be an easy four mile run.
I am reading "Younger Next Year" which is for older/more established gentlemen but has some good nuggets about exercise and nutrition and such. It does go on about being more established means you can afford top gear.

Spent the rest of the rainy afternoon wandering around Chestnut. I did not see any posters wanting a live in dog sitter but who knows. Went to the Apple Store and Dinner at Plutos. Jacks is having a sale so I will need a good fashion eye.

FI am not coming up with a great idea for the subject line of this entry.

First off I want to address the whole people arguing thing.
It is not like I seek it out. I just think its funny when people argue over something trivial. Unless they were saying bad things about standard poodles, the simpsons, star wars or Chimay.

Went to MoMo's and thought Cosmo would show up and be working at the joint but he was at the compound.
He had a surprise of a day as he was curled up having doggie dreams when he was whisked to the bucolic splendor of the compound I am sure he was pleased as punch with the way things turned out.

We discussed chartreusse and I learned how to bypass the queue at Costco with the secret express lane.
This led to the movie/song Convoy. We wondered if Burt Reynolds was in the movie or if anyone was in both Convoy and Smokey and the Bandit.
They are many genres that you no longer see and the trucker is one that is sadly missed. Perhaps I should be in a Trucker movie with Ninjas.
It turns out Convoy came after Smokey and the Bandit AND it was based on the song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtXhHn6Yaqc

Finished reading "The Freedom Manifesto". I am not going to Tesso's and should grow my own vegetables.

Went to Whole Foods and got a GT's Kombucha. I am very predictable.

Used my Macy's coupon on rain gear for running. I was considering going skiing on Super Bowl Sunday as the slopes would be empty but I have my 2nd Half Marathon.

Had dinner at a Pho joint where loads of Vietnamese were cheering wildly for the Giants/Packers game.

Amazingly one of the sponsored links for this entry was the Juno Soundtrack which I saw in the evening. Great movie.

Tomorrow I am going to run from Fort Mason to Fort Point.

Guilty Pleasure

I will admit a guilty pleasure. I love watching people argue.
I think it is very funny. It does not matter if they know each other or they are strangers united in misery, I love a good row.

Yesterday I saw a couple having a spat in the park about planning.

Today was far better as I went to Costco to get toothbrush heads and post runs packs of post run nuts and I saw this people arguing by the shopping carts. I could tell they were both simply miserable. I watched and laughed.

The greatest argument came in 2002 at the Washington Mutual at California and Polk.

Run, Clothes Swap, Blood Donation, Pacific Catch

For some dumb reason I purchased two Nike + sensors so I returned it to the Foot Locker at Seramonte center. I gave out coupons to Taco Bells to the other patrons as I do not eat there.
I had demoted my running fred containers as they were shot and started with the pair I got while dog sitting.

Swung by the Daly City Farmers Market and got a bag of apples and a bag of oranges. They are not as many vendors.
Bits about running_______________________________________________________________________________________________
I was considering running with the training group but I did not want to run on the Golden Gate Bridge because of 1) cement 2) tourists I decided to run in Golden Gate Park which is the Kaiser Half course. In addition to the new fred containers and the sensors, I was wearing sunglasses, one glove to carry my key and a heart rate monitor.
Ran into Andrea (not my sister) in the middle of the park. The way up the park is mostly uphill so the second half was far easier.

Went to Safeway with soggy money and got 1) banana and 2) some of pomengrante tea. Some homeless fellow asked me for money and I said sadly, "Man, I only got $.08" and he the hobo said, "You can't give what you don't have".
Is Hobo PC? What do you picture when you mention hobo?

Drove across town to the clothing swap as I had a bag of clothes I was not wearing including the recently demoted fred containers. It was total chaos and the next time I am going to bring a camcorder. I found a JAL tie and I took back my fred containers plus found a shirt that said, "Keep Austin Weird" and I gave it to a friend of Gwen to interoffice it. I need to send an e-mail to explain the context.

Next stop was the blood bank and I like donating blood. It is a nice day out and they give you cranberry juice. I am also really good at donating blood. Luckily there has been no mix up with calling the compound.

Made my way to Chestnut street. Was going to go to Pluto's but decided to try Pacific Catch. I am interested in chicken or salmon over different vegetables which this place had.

This woman came up to the street and asked for gas money as she lost her wallet in a coffee shop. She claimed to be going to Sacramento State. I ended up giving her a $1.

They were more hobos/vagabonds/urban campers that in the past on Chestnut.

Saw this woman walking down the street in a Symantec Jacket and I followed her into the pub. I asked her if she worked at Symantec. I had hoped her response would be "Yes, I am in software sales but sadly they are moving my job to Houston/Salt Lake City etc" but she was with another group. Ended up chatting to her and her friend from Rhode Island.

The Faces are really good. Listen to Sweet Lady Mary.

DeYoung

First off I am not happy with NorthWestAirlines.
Went to Kayak and did a search for flights to Maryland in April. They had far and away the cheapest flights. I went to their website and got an error.
So I called their customer service who told me that although they see the error of their ways I am poo out of luck.
All I want is my round trip ticket for $211 round trip. They are boots!

After toiling I went to Whole Foods to get two cases of GT's Kombucha
http://www.gtskombucha.com/
It is my favorite beverage so if I was walking on the beach and it was hot...

I also purchased a pepper and some proper Australian licorice.

Went to the mall in San Mateo but they did not have Nike+ on sale so I could not use my coupon.

Made my way to Fleet feet and they did not have any fred containers on sale. I do have a pair I will use for tomorrows run as my last pair is shot.

Throught meetup.com I went to the DeYoung for their Fridays alive. Met this woman who went to Mozambique which is a bit wilder than London.
We all went to the Thai Noodle Jump as I good at picking out places in the city.

My next International trip will be in South America.

What is going on??

Today I got two what is going on and one what is going on this weekend and honestly, there is nothing going on.
People get made of wood hearing about running (except for Tracy Webb & Jeff) and making my own food (Tracy Webb did make Marcus Chicken Soup but she put too many noodles)

I need to make something up so I have an actual answer to that question.
They are a few things that I am not doing but then again its also not interesting.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp9dc9im3-M&feature=related
If anyone needs a designated driver let me know....

Went running and going forward I am not going to do any running where I have to stop at intersections OR run on cement. In the middle of my run my sensor stopped working so I started walking but then ran in the panoppositeoffredle knowing the mileage and time did not count towards my total but it was actually more relaxing. I stopped when I had to run on the cement. But I knew I was now in the market for one of them sensors and I hoped to find one at the Radio Shack as I have a $10 off a $40 purchase.

Met Michaela Doriss at the bean bag cafe. She and I have known each other close to two years but this is the third time we saw each other. She told me that she has never drank a long island iced tea. I have decided to put that beverage in the pile of things that I am saying no no to such as peanut butter with hydrogenated oil and high frucose corn syrup and microwave popcorn.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVGerWFYotQ
I need to get this jacket.

She described the plight of living with roommates. Ever time I think it would be nice to live in a fancy mansion with other people I remember what it was like when people would throw paper towels and such.

She also mentioned that she had a G Rated dream about me. I hope it was at least animated. Or better yet I was live action and everything else was like Yellow Submarine.
But I think she would have said it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wk5OEKISrCM

I went to the Serramonte Center and that mall makes me sad.
I went into several stores trying to find Nike + that were on sale and in my size where I could use my coupon but the mall is in the middle ages. The guy at the store explained the malls in San Mateo and Palo Alto are way better. I will be heading out to Fleet Feet to get the transmitter and fred containers IF they are on sale.
The Radio Shack did not have the Nike+ transmitter and the Foot Locker and three other stores did not have my size (12) in Nike + that were on sale.
It goes against my wiring to pay full price.

Ended up buying some potions and lotions.

On a far more important note, my Mom had the second part of her deep brain stimulation and is now resting recovering in Churchton.

Foods I dislike (items added)

Today is a rest day so I am not running nor making you made of wood about running.

The other day some of my fellow toilers annouced they wanted a licorice treat. This unearthed a hatred for two items that pass themselves off as licorice to the masses which are red vines and twizzlers. These items are to licorice as I am to an airplane. It tastes nothing like proper licorice. I dated a woman who hated the taste of licorice which looking back is a bit odd.
If she had a choice between a lifetime of proper licorice or endless ROPES she would choose the latter.
If you go to this website, they do not serve either Red vines or Twizzlers.
http://www.licoriceinternational.com/nutritional_information.html

Makes me think of going to the Oakland A's games (Red Vines). I used to get the tickets to the A's dollar games.

Other food items I do not like are bologna and Krab (fake crab meat).

Every day I get e-mails from around the world. I got a greeting for a Happy Pongal and I thought what a great Holiday name. When Sasha gets a friend, I may name them Pongal.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pongal
http://photopage.wordpress.com/2007/01/15/sugarcane-market/

Total Eclipse of the Heart came on my iTunes so I am rocking out.

After toiling I went to Costco to get gas as there was no queue. I chatted up one of the woman in one of the other pumps as she must have been impressed that I had a car with power windows and a CD player.
Went into Costco and I was going to get replacement toothbrush heads but I got fed up with the queue so I abandoned my items mostly on principal. If I had my iPod I would rock out but I would only stand in the queue and making up back stories of the people buying an amazing amount of pretzels.
I may get my parents a popcorn trolley. In retrospect I could have buyed a load of licorice and then share them with my fellow toilers so they may develop a liking for good licorice.

Andrea discussed her situation at the La Plata Safeway. I still think the worst safeway is the one in Westlake in Daly City with their long queues and the fact they do not give out rainchecks for 10 for $10 items. Very few stores in this area have double coupons. Maybe I should take myself off the grid and grow my own spinach.

From Brian Tholen's status I saw that tonight was Ask A Scientist but I was too lazy to go.

Made an annoucement at the clown colony meeting thanking them for the parking enforcement. I will yell at them about the dog rule at another time. Turns out no one likes clowns.

If you want to opposite of fred me a cave prize, proper licorice would be good or chocolate covered ginger. Could one make a licorice/ginger cake?

700 miles

The reason one needs rest days...

First off I need to get a new pair of trainers as they are shot.
Normally I run every other day but to sync up my Saturday run, I have to have two days in a row or have two rest days in a row.
As I have my annual goal of 1000 miles I will opt for two days in a row.

As I THOUGHT I needed to go to the sports basement in the Presidio for the San Francisco training program I thought it would be a good chance to get to the 700 mile mark.

<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase=" http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="198" height="145" id="Nike+ Runs" align="middle"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value=" http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/v1/swf/scrapablewidget/rundetail.swf" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><param name="FlashVars" value="type=individualRun&userDefaultUnit=mi&screenName=hydra1970&dateFormat=MM/DD/YY&id=2095532833&region=us&language=en&locale=en_us"/><embed src=" http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/v1/swf/scrapablewidget/rundetail.swf" quality="high" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="198" height="145" name="Nike+ Runs" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" FlashVars="type=individualRun&userDefaultUnit=mi&screenName=hydra1970&dateFormat=MM/DD/YY&id=2095532833&region=us&language=en&locale=en_us" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage=" http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed></object>

Nike should really pay me...

On this run I ran into the Minnesota Twins (Carly Jackson and Brian Tholen). They told me about the possibility of getting the old volleyball team together.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBKkwxCV5ls (for long time readers this will make sense...)

My legs hurt but I like nice round numbers and wanted to get over 700 miles. It was not the same blissful experience but life goes on.

I heard some randoms rocking out to Steve Winwood in a minivan.

Went to the PRESIDIO Sports Basement for the information session on the half marathon training program and I sat in the community room by myself. No one had any idea what I was on about but I checked my phone and saw it was at another location. So I sped across town to the new location (which moved).

I finally found the place after seeing the Alex Stack doppleganger. Frank Chu has 2 sets of 12 dopplegangers (which explains how he is everywhere at once).

I asked the people at the session if I could listen to my songs because honestly I do not want to be alone with my thoughts while running.

Went to the Safeway and got some spinach and apples. As I said earlier I am trying to get in the habit of doing my own cooking as 1) it is cheaper and 2) for the most part its healthier.
I do like going to Pluto's.

Blame it on the Icy Hot

<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0 " width="198" height="145" id="Nike+ Runs" align="middle"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value=" http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/v1/swf/scrapablewidget/rundetail.swf" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><param name="FlashVars" value="type=individualRun&userDefaultUnit=mi&screenName=hydra1970&dateFormat=MM/DD/YY&id=1021807277&region=us&language=en&locale=en_us"/><embed src=" http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/v1/swf/scrapablewidget/rundetail.swf" quality="high" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="198" height="145" name="Nike+ Runs" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" FlashVars="type=individualRun&userDefaultUnit=mi&screenName=hydra1970&dateFormat=MM/DD/YY&id=1021807277&region=us&language=en&locale=en_us" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage=" http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed></object>

After my run I was walking around the parking lot of the Trader Joes in an almost blissful stupor. I have not felt physically this good in years. In fact I do not remember when I physically felt this good. It may have been the combination of Icy Hot, Bayer, and a great run with good music but I was in the zone. I even let someone in front of me in the queue! Maybe after 696 miles I finally got the "runners high". Right then at that moment as I walked with my two bags of groceries all was right with the world. Sometimes people think they need a fancy car, their team going to the USFL championship or a cruise vacation but somehow in that parking lot it all added up.

About two years ago at this time, I remembered when I felt the opposite. That is when I decided to abstain from drinking for a month, which then stretched for two months.

A few months later I met the nutritionist who pointed the errors of my ways (juice etc), then last year I started running. It sucked. The Nike + system worked wonders as I was able to track what I was doing.

For example this was one of my first runs
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase=" http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="198" height="145" id="Nike+ Runs" align="middle"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value=" http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/v1/swf/scrapablewidget/rundetail.swf" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><param name="FlashVars" value="type=individualRun&userDefaultUnit=mi&screenName=hydra1970&dateFormat=MM/DD/YY&id=344650686&region=us&language=en&locale=en_us"/><embed src=" http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/v1/swf/scrapablewidget/rundetail.swf" quality="high" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="198" height="145" name="Nike+ Runs" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" FlashVars="type=individualRun&userDefaultUnit=mi&screenName=hydra1970&dateFormat=MM/DD/YY&id=344650686&region=us&language=en&locale=en_us" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage=" http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed></object>

I signed up for the boot camp class at Google. Having that positive social pressure worked wonders.

Ran my first half marathon in November. I have four scheduled for 2008 (including one in a few weeks...) and an annual goal of 1000 miles (in the first 14 days of 2008 I have 45.39 miles.)
Choosing a run over beer and chicken wings will have a much better payoff.
I was an expert on something rather stupid. (drink specials/free food etc...). If smoking and/or Fast food was free would I smoke/eat? Probably not... But in the past, if Panchos put out a pile of free frozen taquitos and had Vodka Tonics marked down to $2, then I was there.
I remembered ordering a drink at black angus which was a piece of chocolate cake in a blender with rum (which was half off for Happy Hour). The guy from Super Size me should do a sequel on those sit down restaurants. Benegans said on the menu that it wants to punch the surgeon general in the face.

Do not get me started on the launch parties. But if it had not been doing the Happy Hours and the launch parties I would have not done the Pink Slip Parties and I would not be where I am now.

Run Newfoundland Gap Bartender Teatoller

Drove to the Sports Basement for a training run. I do not like running on the Golden Gate Bridge because 1) tourists walking side by side 2) running on cement so I opted for a shorter run of the three options (6.6)

<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" width="198" height="145" id="Nike+ Runs" align="middle"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value="http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/v1/swf/scrapablewidget/rundetail.swf" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" /><param name="FlashVars" value="type=individualRun&userDefaultUnit=mi&screenName=hydra1970&dateFormat=MM/DD/YY&id=1088893433&region=us&language=en&locale=en_us"/><embed src="http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/v1/swf/scrapablewidget/rundetail.swf" quality="high" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#ffffff" width="198" height="145" name="Nike+ Runs" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" FlashVars="type=individualRun&userDefaultUnit=mi&screenName=hydra1970&dateFormat=MM/DD/YY&id=1088893433&region=us&language=en&locale=en_us" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed></object>

Wandered around sports basement and got a running magazine plus some more socks. I am going to check out the training program through runsfm.

My plans for the evening included being a volunteer guest bartender but I did not bring club gear so I went to the Gap on Chestnut and went through the clearance rack with a bunch of trousers falling off the rack. I got an outfit for $48 but then returned it because I figured I could go back to my place and get the right clothes (and not spend $48)

I did see these two Newfoundland Dogs who were very cute. If I was a dog, I would be a Newfoundland

Returned to Daly City and did some mundane errands like going to the library, then to Best Buy where I returned my belkin wireless router that I could not to work and they never called to resolve my issue. Exchanged it for the Simpsons game.

Drove back into the city to go to the Cellar. Hung around the posh end of Polk Street and hit the Bargain Bank and other stores.

Andrea kept me informed of the status of the compound and how Cosmo needed a reset.

Once again it was far more fun being a volunteer bartender at the cellar. The Gen Y crowd sure loves their Red Bulls and Vodka. It was easy not drinking even though I had full access to the entire bar. As stated I am not drinking until March 1st, maybe St. Patrick Day.

It was a fun night even though I did not drink.

(SUNDAY)

Spoke to the compound as Mum has returned to the Manor from her deep brain stimulation

Drove to Costco and got salmon, dish soap, crab meat and some Vitamins (like fish oil). I will not be renewing my membership.

Went into the city as I was going to run BUT I forgot my iPod AND it was supposed to be a rest day so I figured walking would be better.

Stopped by USF where they had a record swap. I was just browsing (that is where some of the pictures are from). There is a movie called "Wild in the Streets" that I want to see...

The second misconnect of the day came when Zeitgest had no hamburgers. Read the Freedom Manifesto trying to look cool.

Walked around the Mission which I have not done in a while. I could not find the Bollyhood cafe AND I did not have my phone with me.

Got me some GT's Kombucha from Whole Foods for the next week.

As I had mentioned I am going to do more of my own cooking. First off its cheaper, second off you have way more control on what goes in. I made this spinach, tomato and garlic thing with Olive Oil.
