Marcus gets a medal!
given a medal. Today was different. In fact I think this was the
first time I got a medal (actually it was cardboard) when I was in a
quiz show in the early 1980's.
As it was the time change, something I am not a fan of, I woke up at
like 2 AM. The fact that I was running my first half marathon did not
contribute to sound slumber.
After reading this you will think, wow, Marcus, you are really a half
empty glass type of bloke but I am actually I think of some of the
things that could possibly happen and then make the right plans.
The Marcusmobile was not stolen, I did not have two cases of Pink Eye
and I was able to easily find decent parking and things went well.
The key to long races like a Half Marathons is pacing rather than
speed. I ran the first mile at 9:48 but I knew they had a full dozen
miles to school me. I kept on thinking of the Foreman Moorer fight
At just past the seven mile mark on the other side of the Golden Gate
Bridge, I thought of catching a ride with Stanley but I made it to
the water station and I cleared my head a bit.
Upon completion, I was out of my mind and to be honest, more than a
little stupid and very sore but I was so happy that I completed it.
Considering it took me 13 minutes to run a mile in February I was
happy with my pace.
Had wonton soup while wearing my medal and the fortune cookie said,
"Pain is Temporary; the success it brings can be everlasting".
