Waiting for a Mattress (The final chapter?)

I am in my place, waiting for my mattress from Dirt Cheap Mattresses. It may arrive while I am writing this entry but in retrospect, perhaps I should have held off getting rid of my old bed until the new bed arrived OR paid the extra fee for removal.

You may be amazed but my ad on Craigslist for a free mattress did not elicit loads of responses. In fact outside of a broken microwave, this was the only thing I was not able to give away.

I drove home and on 92 I saw an old woman walking along the side of the highway. Either she was lost, her car was broken down or did not understand the concept of not walking on the side of busy freeways. I pulled over and let her walk up to the car. She was able to say, "Vietnam" and "San Mateo". Considering she was walking away from San Mateo I offered her a ride and took her to the fire station and they were going to get an officer that spoke Vietnamese. She was probably somebody's Mom, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother etc.

Went to the Sawyer Camp Trail for a short (3.1 miles at 9:07 miles) that put me at 548 miles

My eyes were stinging.

I get back to Daly City and I do not want to pay extra for the removal of the mattress. So I drag the mattress, box spring and frame to the dumpster in three trips. I felt like members of the 1958 Yankees digging a ditch for a pool.

The Safeway guy arrived early but I am still waiting for the mattress.
