Gold and Broken hands but not impaled

On Friday mornings I go to the Spin class at the Crunch in Daly City. Afterwards I go to the Starbucks because I am a coffee connoisseur. 

Noticed one of the regulars had a broken hand. Asked how he broke his hand. Was expecting something toil related. Turned out he fell while panning for gold. 

Told him that he was lucky he was not in the 19th century.
