Pilot/Production Company

The weather has been really nice the couple days. Almost a little too hot because the Bay Area has made me a wimp. Not a huge fan of the Haight due to all the vagrants but I had to go to Off the Grid because the production company wanted me to film a segment at this. Pitching the show to various networks but considering doing it online and having some talks with Netflix.
Was not considering doing a show but was approached after doing Mortified last year. They were pretty persistant in the last few weeks and they said I could travel first class when we film oversees.
Will be doing an episode over memorial day in Ocean City, Maryland.

Limitless led me to take a computer science class

I saw the movie limitless. The basis of the movie is based in an urban myth about the percentage of your brain that one uses.
So this guy takes a drug that makes him use his whole brain and he writes a book and does kung fu..

Liked the movie but it got me thinking about the access to knowledge we all have and that we (including myself) use it to watch cat videos.

One of the things that I have been talking about for a while is 1) take some of the free online University classes 2) learn coding.
Had downloaded Introduction to computer science and programming which is a free course available through MIT and Apple.

Wondered how to download Python (honestly have not coded since Basic on a Timex Sinclair) and it turned out it was already on my computer. Putting this in the Greatest Blog so like my running goals, if I make it public, I will more likely follow through...

Shopping Cart and St Patricks Day

A while ago Safeway was having a sale on Starbucks coffee. One of the upsides of Starbucks is that you get a free tall coffee with a purchase of their ground coffee. (I am sure you are wondering, why am I reading this, what am I learning!)
So the bag was empty and I was going to redeem my free coffee. Now if you bring your own cup, they fill it up.
On the way to Starbucks, I saw a shopping cart on the sidewalk, which I do not like (as Cosmo does not like that either). So instead of getting angry I was going to push the shopping cart back to the store.

As I was walking, looking like the height of sophistication, I heard a couple of people walking up with large bags. Turns out they were holding bags of cans so I gave them the shopping cart.

SXSW

Will be going to SXSW to network and recruit software engineers and developers.

In a hot field (like software engineers & developers) we cannot limit ourselves to

-Job boards

-LinkedIn profiles

-Boolean Search (I am sure the person who has the first result in (intitle:resume | inurl: resume) "software engineer" java ruby 415 -jobs -eoe -you has gotten quite a few contacts)

-Ads (If you are posting ads waiting on software engineers to apply, you may be waiting awhile)

These approaches work on some positions but not for the roles with the most in demand skill sets and backgrounds so you need to go where the talent is (such as SXSW, tech events & user groups)

Getting out from behind your computer and phone and proactively meeting your target market is a great way to find the candidates.

If you are planning on going to SXSW then follow sxswparty on Twitter.

Running goal and doing things differently

In the interest of keeping things interesting, I have chosen a new running goal for the month of March.
Run one day. OK, that sounds lame and stupid but what the goal is, is to run a total of 24 hours over the course of the next 31 days.

In January I ran a total of 18:27.
Ran about 65 minutes today.

Have been running much better this year compared to other years. Here are a couple things that I think have been good
1) Icing my legs in an unheated pool after runs when possible
2) Foam Rolling and more stretching/flexibility focus
3) Oatmeal with peanut flour & banana before run, almonds & chocolate milk after
4) Not drinking in January and February.
5) Good weather
