Track

http://web.me.com/hydra9/Site_5/Blog/Entries/2009/8/27_First_Track_Workout_since_1988.html

Need another $1000 to reach my fund raising commitment for Team in Training
http://pages.teamintraining.org/sf/nikesf09/mronaldi

For the first time since around the time of the 1988 Presidential Election, I did a track workout.
The last two Wednesday after kickball, I ran into coach Joe who asked when I was coming out to Kezar. Did not have a good excuse so I went to the track.
Gotta think of new excuses.

After warming up we ran one lap, followed by four laps, followed by one lap and another four and then another two.
At the end one of the other participants gave us $10 gift certificates for the Olive Garden so that means I will get the never ending pasta bowl.

Two different articles about Religion both in Today's New York Times

Here are two different articles from today's New York Times that deal with Religion on some level.
One about an organic farm in upstate New York that helps to rehabilitate people with substance abuse issues
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/16/nyregion/16farm.html?pagewanted=2&sq=farm%20lettuce&st=cse&scp=1

and the other about "The Gospel of Prosperity"
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/16/us/16gospel.html which made me wonder how people got duped into spending thousands of dollars to buy that guy an airplane.
"She gave $2,000 for the plane, and recently sent $1,800 for the team's latest project: buying high-definition television equipment to upgrade the ministry's international broadcasts."

Eggs Florentine Kind of

http://web.me.com/hydra9/Site_5/Blog/Entries/2009/8/23_Eggs_Florentine.html

I like to cook but do not like all the bourgeois recipes with their ingredients and instructions.
No, I like to take the concept, such as eggs Florentine and guess what I think it should contain. I looked at the recipe and saw that it required a bunch of stuff I do not own so I blazed my own path.
Which included olive oil and garlic followed by various spices then by spinach, eggs, cheese and tomatoes all living together in a wok. Turned out rather well.

Their next door neighbor was lentil soup that also contained garlic (guess what I have excess of...)

Homeless (no, not really...)

I hate shopping carts. I do not hate shopping carts when I am in the process of shopping or bring whatever I am buying from the store to the parking lot but beyond those areas, I do not like seeing shopping carts.
Was having my apartment cleaned (that is so well worth it because I cannot get it really clean....) so I had to split so I decided to walk to the gym where I came across a Target shopping cart. (note to the world, say Tar Jee was funny but no more..). I knew that if I did not move it, the shopping cart would be in the same spot for months and each time I walk by, I would be annoyed each time so I took the advice, "be the change you want to see in the world..." and decided to move the shopping cart. I had on my shoulder a towel and I was wearing a sweat suit so I looked like a mover and shaker. Got to the corner of Serramonte and Hickey and realized I simply could not put the cart in the Bank of America parking lot because the wind could push it into another car. So I had to go down the road to the Target pushing a shopping cart with a towel over my shoulder looking like Arther Dent after the council knocked his house down.
A bus drives by and I could see all of the riders looking at me wondering how I hit such dire straits. Sadly no one gave me any money. Maybe I need a witty sign.

Lou Rawls..

http://web.me.com/hydra9/Site_5/Blog/Entries/2009/8/12_The_death_of_Michael_Jackson_reintroduced_me_to_Lou_Rawls.html

The day Michael Jackson died, I turned on Sirius Soul Town expecting to hear a bunch of Michael Jackson songs.
They were playing their normal awesome music and I heard for the first time, a song by Lou Rawls called Dead End Street.  He has quite a few great songs, many of which I have forgotten about. He talks in quite a few of his songs, which takes a special talent.  One of his songs he asks for change for a quarter to make a call.
When my emusic subscription re-upped I downloaded his greatest hits
Any music can be greatly improved with puppets as shown with this clip from the Muppet show.

Perspective

http://web.me.com/hydra9/Site_5/Blog/Entries/2009/8/6_Perspective.html

The other day while waiting for the Bitter End Pub Quiz to start, I wandered into the Richmond Library and picked up a Men's Health Magazine and read the following article about volunteering.

So the next day I checked out the One Brick Website and saw they had an event that fit my schedule which involved distributing food to the the people I showed up. My main job was piling cobs of corn onto a table. Next time I am going to give out the red cabbage which seems more in line with my pace.

Wondered how this compared to the food lines that you see in pictures from the Great Depression. It is a great way to get a perspective on your life.

Afterwards the volunteers went to Pakwan on 16th Street.  Nice group.

Proven Wrong: Delaware Beers

At times, I will spout off some opinion but if given evidence, I will change my position.
Last week I had a nice trip to Santa Rosa and I looked at the beer menu, it listed the usual suspects of places to get beer but it also listed Delaware.
Now I may think of Nachos in Delaware but not beer.
I ordered the beer and it was really good..
Turns out that you can get it in a number of places
