A dog like Cosmo

If I were to get/foster a dog, I would want them to act like Cosmo. I want to be able to say, Yoshimi, go find the children (if children were needed to be found) and the dog would know what I am talking about. Need a way to check this out as I do not want a barky malarky dog.
Sometimes I get frustrated that people do not have ESP or Jedi powers.
