Ike's Place

For some odd reason earlier this Summer I decided to declare Friday as "Sandwich Friday" where I eat a nice sandwich.
I turn the decision on the venue and order to my Facebook network. Today they did not disappoint as it gave me the idea to make some sort of certification process and declare a place as Sandwich Friday certified. I would sell out in a second to Subway.
My network recommend a place called Ike's Place and the Mario Brothers.
If you are in a rush, perhaps to quickly adopt cats (this a joke only I will get) then I would pass but if it is a nice day and you want to be in Sandwich Friday heaven, (the workers said any day could be Sandwich day but that is crazy talk..)
They are true sandwich magic people!! One of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Well worth the wait..

Idea for a cartoon

I think this would make a good cartoon as I doubt Obama would be into it.

It involves the President solving minor crimes/mysteries in and around the White House after hours with his dog Bo.
He would wear some sort of disguise.

This is kinda of a borrowed idea...

Happily wrong...

I may be able to deduce the active leader in hits but at times I like to be proven wrong.
Drove out of the bubble of fog of Daly City over the Golden Gate Bridge to experience things like "sun" and "heat" which are part of something called a "season" which is labeled as "summer"

We went to a place called the Black Rose Pub in Santa Rosa. My expectations were not high as many "Irish pubs" are as Irish as a Saturday morning lung fu movie. (trying to think of something not Irish)

I was floored at the coolness of the place. First off major points for two things they did not have 1) TV (So many bars have way too many TV's, I do not need to know the score of the Mets Nationals game every five seconds...) and 2) crummy beer.

The beer selection was first rate. Another expectation that was exceeded was the portion of the beer menu labeled Delaware.

The pub quiz was quite challenging. Lots of history questions. I need to read an almanac.

San Francisco (Half) Marathon, Stress Dreams, Figuring out systems and given a bag of watermelon plus talking to Team Asha

http://tinyurl.com/l2qy2h

Whenever I have to wake up earlier than normal plus when I have a longer than usual race, having stress or anxiety dreams is not uncommon.
The dream that I had last night involved me taking the ACT test (I have no idea what it was or why I was taking it) and there was a portion where I had to tell what various Morse code symbols stood for. The guy given the test, who knew me, was given me answers but I had no clue if they were right.
After the test people I knew were busting my chops for 1) doing really bad 2) cheating.

Woke up at 4 AM. I was running the second half of the Marathon which is kind of stupid because you have to get to the city in time for the start of the first half to get the bus to the second half marathon start.
I thought of trying to run the first half or just running 13 miles but figured I wanted the medal and the Fuji apples from CNN and perhaps a Polaroid.
Left the Elmo I found outside of the car as part of an experiment.

Was not a fan of the bus as I was getting a bit motion sickness especially when someone mentioned it. Power of suggestion was in effect!!
Met a mother and daughter who both have a condition and they were both doing the second half. The Mom was going in for surgery. Put my ankle in perspective.

The shuttles get you to the start really early. Had around an hour and a half to kill so I walked to 36th and Balboa to chill out at a coffee shop and used their facilities. One thing that makes me really happy is figuring a way around a system. The queues for the porta potties were really long but for the price of a cup of coffee this was by passed and I was able to read the movie reviews. The name of the coffee shop is Simple Pleasures
http://www.yelp.com/biz/simple-pleasures-cafe-San-Francisco

So I ran the half marathon and right now I will admit that I am not at the top of my running game but that is part of it. You will have highs and lows. Cardio wise I was fun but my ankle kept on stiffening up so I need to do some exercises to focus on my ankle. Was happy that I 1) finished 2) did not hurt myself further.

In the mission the spectators were giving out large bags of watermelon. Only ate half. Still a cool thing to give out.

Finished the race and I am not sure of my time but in the scheme of things, I doubt I will be scaring any competitive runners in the near future. Somehow ended up with more goos than when I started.

Went to the San Francisco Marathon training group tent and made myself a chocolate banana peanut butter thing.

CNN had some setup and they were announcing they were giving away Fuji apples which is OK in my book but it was red delicious which is not my favorite. They were also taking Polaroids. I am guessing that this will be one of the final Polaroids taken of me.

Ran into Team Asha and told them about my cat that their charity inspired and they wanted a donation.

Dog and Police Shelter

http://web.me.com/hydra9/Site_5/Blog/Entries/2009/7/21_Possible_Cat_%2B_1970s_dog_and_Police_Station.html

So those that want to see more pictures of the possible cat should go to to the photo box. You can also see the dog I am dog sitting for and the damage to the Marcusmobile.

The dog is listening to the Carl Douglas hit Kung Fu Fighting

This morning I went to the police station to tell them the story of the additional character left on the Marcusmobile.

At first glance the cat may appear to be reading the New York times but that is not the case as she is reading upside down.

Rice Pudding District

http://web.me.com/hydra9/Site_5/Blog/Entries/2009/7/17_Rice_Pudding_Wednesday.html

Recently I have been labeling the days of the week with something such as Sandwich Friday. I do not believe in Taco Tuesday but I would not be sad if a Taco Truck would park outside my apartment.

For the third Wednesday in a row I found myself in the Rice Pudding District on Polk Street waiting to go into Tonic. They are times when drinks are not that interesting and that was one of them but I am probably a price sensitive drinker (You learn economics reading my blog/reviews!).

A budweiser for more than $2 is not a special.

OK so I was in the Rice Pudding joint for the third time in three weeks. The music is always good. Spoke to the Rice Pudding opposite of fred and she said she was able to bring in her iPod. Good thing I was not working or we would be listening to the theme from the Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Half

http://web.me.com/hydra9/Site_5/Blog/Entries/2009/7/12_8_Miles_and_Half_Manhattan.html

Took the BART from Balboa park. I am not sure if I ever did that.

I ran eight miles or to/from the Ferry Building to the Sports Basement. For the most part I felt pretty good.

The farmers market is a bit RWP. I will stick to Seramonte.

Post run I wanted some Pizza and found a place called Rosanero Pizza. One of those dumb things that people say like "make the whole plane out of the black box material" is "there is no such thing as bad pizza". Well as I wonder the earth I have seen LOADS of bad excuses for Pizza including one purchased from a vending Mac Hine and a seafood pizza in Salisbury, England.  Sometimes this places will claim they are New York Style. Happily this is one of those placed that does Pizza right. I had a slice of cheese (my first slice at any new place is always cheese because the simplicity allows for proper judgement). The second slice was a much busier slice but still quite good.

Later in the day made my way to Union Square to see the Woodsy Allen movie, Manhattan.  Never met up with my droogs and saw half but it was a fun night.

Snakes on a tractor..

Some days I struggle for something witty and clever to title my blog entry. Not everything can be a Magical Mystery Tour, sometimes it's the White Album. (I am not saying that the White Album is boots but rather the title and the cover is sparse. Today is not one of those days as the title was very simple. I was In Churchton, Maryland helping my day move some dirt and mulch. When I was done moving the mulch from the back of the pick up truck I noticed that the tire on the trailer was flat. We then tried to inflate but there was a puncture. We then jacked up the trailer but the jack got stuck. Luckily this was fixable and the tire fixing stuff worked. My dad then had to go around the block in the tractor.

Then when the flat was repaired, he asked me, "do you have any problems with snakes". This could never be something good. I imagined myself as either Indiana Jones or Samuel L Jackson. It turns out that a fairly long black snake with a white belly (kind of like Sasha if she was a snake). So I moved the mulch from trailer to the pile as a black snack watched me. Then when I was finished, the snake decided to check out the tractor so I have the title for the day which is "Snakes on a trailer" and yes, I had the camera and it will be uploaded to YouTube.

Animals

In the near future I will be getting one, maybe two new animal friends. Most likely a cat and possibly a dog.
Yesterday I when I was doing my laundry I remembered how Sasha liked to jump into the middle of the warm laundry and she would sit there all day.
Also If I was going on a trip, she would protest so I would have to pack the night before. She was not a huge fan of travel.

The big upside of the cat is that they are way more self reliant than dogs.

My two all time favorite dogs is Noel (a stray standard poodle) and Cosmo (a german shorthaired pointer) but Crown Colony has a rule that on some level makes sense, that you cannot have a dog over twenty pounds. I am also not a big fan of the other dog owners in the complex as they think it is OK to leave their dog surprise in the roadway.

So I am going to ask the board if I could be the exception to the dog size rule. I could imagine explaining why I am allowed to have a Newfoundland.

Maybe I should put more effort in getting more dog sitting gigs. Perhaps I could dog/house sit for Robin Williams as he goes off and makes one of those movies.
